Recommended for Grade 4 In these "Hands-On Science and Technology" modules students will examine a wide variety of materials that transmit, reflect and absorb light and sound energy. They will also examine the unique characteristics of light and sound energy. Through hands on investigations, students will learn how light travels, and will use this knowledge to construct simple optical devices. Similarly they will investigate ways that these materials affect or are affected by sound and light, and will expand their knowledge of the properties of materials. Students will learn about how sound is created by vibrations, how it travels, and how a variety of sounds can be produced and controlled. They will have opportunities to discover how the different properties of materials can help in designing products.
