Finding food is the most immediate need for any animal. Food is the fuel that gives an animal strength to fight, or to flee. But in the Luangwa valley the dry season is at its height and the landscape has become cruel and barren. For the herbivores that call the valley home this means food is hard to come by. But one animal's misfortune can be another's good luck. As grazers try to scrape by many lose condition, providing an opportunity for predators. For carnivores, this is a time of plenty.
