At the heart of this wilderness lies a river - the Luangwa. It's a lifeline for animals; many birds and mammals feed and bathe in its waters. But the river really belongs to the hippos. The world's largest concentrations of hippos are found here. They spend their days submerged, keeping cool in the hot sun.
