The Northern Territories represent forty percent of Canada's landmass. This region is known as one of the most challenging for man, where winter can last up to ten months of the year and temperatures drop to minus fifty degrees Celsius. The territories are the only region in Canada where the aboriginal people represent the majority of the population. Yellowknife is the capital of the Northwest Territories and is the most northern city in Canada. The main industries of the Northwest Territories are diamond mining, oil and gas.
