In 2020 COVID-19 brought the world to a standstill but epidemics have hit people in North America many times before. In the 1520's European settlers brough small pox to North America, wiping out a large percentage of the Indigenous population. The US also had the Great Horse Flu of 1872, and Pellagra in 1906. Lessons from the past can help us tackle new diseases in the future.
