Off Colombia's coast a new-born humpback whale draws his first breath. He's 16 feet long, a giant, but the challenges ahead are monumental. He must bulk-up before undertaking one of the longest migrations on the planet: a journey five thousand miles south to the freezing waters of Antarctica. The calf must contend with boisterous adult males and the ever present threat killer whale attack. Even lice threaten to end his short life. His mother never leaves his side, nurturing and protecting him. She has four months to prepare him for the epic journey and to set him up for life.
