The Mesoamerican Reef is the second-longest barrier reef in the world, running parallel to Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, Belize, and the Honduran island of Roatan. It is a pristine ocean ecosystem - but after decades of overfishing and tourist activity, much of this reef is in jeopardy. Today, a series of multi-national Ocean Parks line the reef. They are all at different stages of development and are all monitored by ocean advocates dedicated to maintaining the shark feeding grounds, turtle populations, and marine spawning grounds that line this incredible reef system.
