Don Pedro Calderon de la Barca (1600û1681) û Spanish playwright. He is the writer of 120 comedies and dramas, 80 autos (religious plays) and several interludes, most of which survived to the present day. Among his comedies, the most well-known ones are The Mayor of Zalamea, The Mighty Magician, which in many respects repeat the legend about Faust, and Life is a Dream. He was often called “the Catholic Shakespeare.”.
