Getting Loopy Big Time introduces the first letter to Gom narrated by Bartleby. Gom reads Bartleby's letter telling of his remarkable adventure with the standard opening line: "Dear Gom, You will never guess what happened." Students will soon recognize this repetitive device and anticipate the familiar opening. Bartleby's narration segues to handwriting practice. This segment begins with a short version of "Two Feet Flat On the Floor" with verbal reminders about posture, paper placement, and holding the pencil correctly. Singing along with Bartleby and his Big Band helps prepare students for the lesson. Bartleby is at the opera and his enthusiasm lands him in the limelight. In this program, students are introduced to margins, tall loops, the letter "l", and groups of loops, each with spacing between them. The letter "l" allows students to begin to join letters together. Students should complete the rows of letters, analyze which letter follows the guidelines best, then complete the "Circle Your Best" activity.
