At the end of this activity, students should be able to write out the electron configurations of the elements in the sûblock, describe the changes in the atomic radii of the sûblock elements within groups and periods, describe the changes in the ionic radii of the sûblock elements within groups and periods, describe the trend in the melting points of the elements in groups 1 and 2 and describe the relationship between atomic structure and the physical properties of elements.
