At the end of this activity, students should be able to explain the general types of isomerism: structural isomerism (chain, positional, functional group) and stereoisomerism (geometric, optical), identify the type of isomerism in simple organic molecules, indicate the differences in physical and chemical properties of enantiomers and explain the construction and use of a polarimeter.
