When you practice, repeating a move over and over, it takes less brain attention to make the move. When you are first learning the move be sure that you are doing it correctly, so that your brain is encoding the right action. The drag of air slows the light-weight celluloid ball, but pro players can hit it at up to 200 Km/h. Pro players stand a few feet back from the table to give them more reaction time. The rubber surface on the paddle grips the ball for better control and allows moves like spin shots. Your brain can process sound faster than images, so skilled players learn to hear the difference between spin shots and normal hits. Also know as ping pong, this game started as an after dinner entertainment for wealthy people in England, and they used a wine cork as a ball.
