Florence Nightingale was a nurse during the Crimean War. Often, through the nights, newly injured soldiers or soldiers who needed to be check on, were visited and greeted by Florence who had to use her lamp to see in the dark. These soldiers eventually began to call her 'the lady with the lamp.' Florence was checking to make sure these soldiers had everything they needed to be comfortable.
