When Jack learns that their next assignment involves a mysterious green dragon in a secret location, he's out the door with Tabitha close behind. After an hour of hiking and no sign of dragons a field researcher informs them that they are nearly standing on it. The green dragon plant is at risk because forest clearing has diminished its habitat, the damp banks of woodland waterways. Jack heads off to investigate Ontario's only lizard, a five-lined skink with an amazing defense mechanism, also at risk because of disappearing habitats. Meanwhile Tabitha discovers that American ginseng is at risk because of illegal harvesting as well as diminishing mature forest habitats. Indigenous people have known about the medicinal qualities of ginseng for thousands of years. Back at home, Tabitha applies her new ecosystem insights to her backyard project.
