On June 28, 1914, Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo, Bosnia. Austria-Hungary blamed Serbia and declared war, and other countries joined in. The Germans and other members of the Central Powers began trench warfare and fought the Allies which included Britain and France. World War One also included air assaults and naval battles over a wide area before a peace agreement was signed on November 11th, 1918. The Treaty of Versailles, signed later, included reparations to be paid by Germany to some Allied countries.
