Margaret Mead became fascinated with cultural differences as a child observing her siblings.  She travelled the world to experience life in many unique communities, and she shared the observations that led her to question western beliefs about human nature. A pioneer in cultural anthropology, she fought against racism, inequality, and gender stereotyping. Margaret Mead was posthumously awarded the US presidential medal of freedom for her determination to help others understand, celebrate, and learn from other cultures.
