The lesson explores building shapes from a given number of cubes. Students construct side and front views (or elevations) of various shapes built with cubes, as well as constructing the shape given various views. They also determine the number of cubes used to build a shape. They find the number of interior cubes for a large cube built of small ones by counting the cubes with no painted surfaces. Students end the lesson by building a shape with cubes from written directions.
