At the end of this activity, students should be able to understand the origin of fossil fuels, recognise the importance of crude oil, know the location of the principal deposits of crude oil in the world, understand the fractional distillation process, know the basic products from fractional distillation of crude oil and their uses, understand the terms 'cracking' and 'reforming' and be able to perform calculations involving the concepts of density and mass percentage.
