In this episode Brandy Yanchyk travels to Manitoulin, Island in northern Ontario to learn about how to make a fire and bannock from her Indigenous guide at Great Spirit Circle Trail. First Nations Guide Steven Antoine shows Brandy his indigenous culture and his relationship with nature. He explains the important resources needed to make a fire that he found using the land such as cattail, bark beard, birch bark, and cedar twigs. He speaks about the significance of fire in Indigenous culture as it provides light, warmth, and a spiritual door to communicate with their ancestors. Lastly, he speaks about the importance of tea, as they make and taste cedar tea which is used in spiritual purification and for medicinal purposes such as sinus congestion.
