Anna K. is married to Alex, an older businessman from her Russian-Jewish immigrant community in Queens. She becomes restless and begins an affair with her cousin's boyfriend, alienating her from all she has known. Meanwhile Lev Gavrilov, a pharmacist from Rego Park's Bukharian-Jewish community, has a secret passion for Anna K.'s cousin, Katia Zavurov.
