The material of Tschaikowsky's Second symphony is based largely on Ukrainian folk songs, hence the title Little Russian, an antiquated term used by Russians to mean Ukrainian. The material is extracted from the finale for this arrangement consists of variation treatment of a Ukrainian folk song entitled The Cranes.
