In the late fall of 2008, the Ontario College of Teachers embarked on a series of conversations with First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities. Over a period of two months, 12 conversations were held across Ontario. The goal of this consultative process was to discuss Aboriginal teaching and teacher education with each of the distinct communities to uncover ways to increase the number of First Nations, Métis and Inuit teachers in Ontario. The conversations themselves were guided by a holistic framework with four key areas: 1. Aboriginal teacher education standards resources 2. Aboriginal teacher education programs 3. Becoming a certified teacher 4. Being a member of the Ontario College of Teachers. This report is a compilation of what we heard in these sessions. The recommendations in this report distilled from the options discussed will guide our actions going forward.
