World War I nurse Bess Crawford is sent home from France in 1917 with a convoy of severely burned soldiers. One young pilot always carries a photo of his wife. Heading to her London flat for a two-day leave, Beth is startled to see the pilot's wife embracing another soldier at the railway station. Later that day, the young woman will be murdered.
