Coexist examines the unprecedented social experiment of forced reconciliation in Rwanda. Genocide perpetrators are being released from prison and returning to the villages they terrorized in 1994. We meet women who have made the extraordinary decision to reconcile with the people who killed their husbands and children, and others who understandably cannot bring themselves to forgive or reconcile. Audiences are urged to question their own reactions to violence and forgiveness, using the real-life stories of Rwandans to spark a conversation with themselves and their communities.
