A young man, named Peter Fidler arrived in Manitoba and became a very important surveyor and explorer. He lived with and learned from various First Nations people, who helped him navigate and survive in the wilderness of Canada. This is the story of a man who had a depth of curiosity and a drive to establish a place for himself in the development of trade and commerce through the Hudson's Bay Company. Historical developments, the politics and commerce of the times; settlements and battles, alliances, fur hijacking and war among companies, First Nations and Metis are all described in Fidler's detailed journals, maps and surveys. Re-enactments in the film present a window into a life and time in Canada's 1800's for students of Canadian history.
