Rosie lives in the Ivvavik National Park in Canada. She is just four days old. In Northern Europe, she would be called a Reindeer, but in North America and Canada, she has another name too -- Caribou. This is an Native American name and means 'one that shovels' -- because reindeer can use their feet to act as snow shovels, digging down to the plants for forage. Rosie's mum is now three years old and Rosie is her first calf. Reindeer are travellers, always on the move. Finding food is the main challenge. They rely on their noses and are able to sniff it out, even when it is buried under sixty centimetres of snow!
