Baby Tammy had better look out. On the plains of Tanzania, cheetahs, jackals and even baboons hunt young gazelles. As soon as she is born, she needs to hide to stay alive. She is not fast enough to outrun them yet, but luckily she is good at hiding, has excellent eyesight and hearing -- and, for the first few weeks, she'll be odorless. If she survives, life in the herd will still be precarious as they embark on great migrations to seek out the greenest grass. Adult gazelles spend all their time eating grass and avoiding predators, but they are impressive sprinters and can even out manoeuvre a cheetah running at full pelt.
