As an old lady initiates her grandson into his past, a series of perpetually transforming images unfolds. In a swirl of light and colour, the boy traces his ancestry to Pharaohs and valiant kings. Suddenly the beating of drums conjures up images of slavery and exile. At long last, to the rhythms of jazz and gospel, the boy makes his way from the lush Caribbean to the snows of the Americas.
