4 segments include: INVESTIGATION/HANDS-ON: Today, Han Ru and Stefano are dome detectives at the waterfront, looking for both natural domes and human-made domes. They meet up with Francis, a mechanical engineer, and together they build a geodesic dome and have a party! CHALLENGE: Hamza challenges two teams to walk across a path of eggs to demonstrate the strength of domes. Whoever gets to the finish line first, breaking the least number of eggs, wins this whacky race. One final question: Will the eggs hold Hamza? Tune in to find out. BRAIN BENDER: Malinka and Annabel have a dome shaped cake today; they need to figure out how to cut it so that seven people can have a piece. Sounds easy, until they find out they can only make 3 straight cuts. Can you figure out this yummy brain bender? EDUCATIONAL TAKE AWAY: 1. Round domes are 3 dimensional shapes that are formed by rotating an arch shape. A dome has no angles or corners. 2. Domes get their incredible strength from the arch shape, which allows a dome roof to hold itself up without the need for inner supporting columns. Four balanced forces contribute to its strength - compression, tension, gravity and normal force. 3. A geodesic dome is a different kind of dome that is made of triangles.
