After a young hunter becomes lost in the woods, he wanders into a village where the Deer People live. He stays among them, marries, and has a daughter; however, eventually he yearns to see his human family again. As he leaves, his deer wife asks him to never hunt a white deer. Long after he has forgotten this promise, the hunter kills a white deer, which, as he realizes too late, is actually his deer daughter.
