You may not think soil is that important but without SOIL, there would be no life on Earth. Soil is an essential source of life and nutrients for various organisms, including you and me. Soil provides a base for forests, farms and gardens. In Getting the Dirt on Soil, students learn about the different types of soil, the unique composition, characteristics and condition of each soil type, and how it is vital for sustaining plant and animal life. Students also learn about erosion, weathering, composting, and the ways soil is used by various aboriginal groups around the world. Incorporating easy-to-understand graphics and animated sequences along with bright, colourful video footage and on-screen vocabulary, students will come away with an excellent understanding of the importance of taking care of the soil found all around us.
