Caleb and Bobby Gene are enjoying summer in small town Sutton Indiana, playing games behind the house and in the neighborhood. When they meet their older, cooler 16-year old neighbor Styx Malone, they are pulled into a series of "escalator trades," exchanging one small thing for something better.
