Timeblazers Jen and Sam travel back in time with Alex to learn how ancient Rome has influenced Western civilization. First, he learns how Greeks and Romans believed in similar gods, but Roman names Mercury, Jupiter and Neptune have survived as planets. Then he discovers that Rome's name dates back to the legend of Romulus and Remus. Next he learns how Romans set up a Republic, which included a Senate, until 49 B.C. when Julius Caesar took over as Emperor. Next Alex sees that the Romans invented the first system for getting water into their cities, called an aqueduct, which inspired our modern sewer system today. Finally he visits the Roman Coliseum and learns that buildings such as the Treasury Building and Jefferson Memorial in Washington D.C. are Romanesque in style.
