Gom reads in a letter that Bartleby, while looking at a map, realizes that many places in their neighborhood are on it--including Gom's house. Maps have lines that go up and down and sideways, too. So Bartleby decides that he should go to visit Gom by "using" the map! Letters: F, E, H, L (capital letters that start at upper left with vertical & horizontal lines).
