The cells in the body are organized in four types of complex groups called tissues. In epithelial tissue the cells are bound tightly together and are found on the surface of the skin. Conjunctive tissue makes up most of the body. These are relatively fewer cells with fibers more loosely bound and filled with a gelatinous substance. Bundles of elongated cells make up the body's muscle tissue. Nerve tissue is composed of tangles of neurons and make up the brain, spinal cord and nerves of the body. Each type of tissue has a specific function.
