Flowering plants are the most highly evolved of plant species. Their reproductive organs in the flowers are the male stamens that produce pollen and the female pistils, ovaries or ovules. When germination takes place the ovules are fertilized and become seeds. When the fruit falls and is eaten or rots, the seed germinates and becomes a seedling which grows into the plant. This reproductive cycle is complex, but some plants reproduce asexually through runners.
