Fort Michilimackinac was isolated and in need of supplies for its troops, but in the battle of Lake Eerie the Americans defeated the entire British fleet and impeded supplies reaching Fort Michilimackinac. The British developed a plan to bring the much needed supplies across land to Fort Michilimackinac.
