Gnaeus Pompey, also called Pompey the Great (106 BC û 48 BC) û Roman statesman and military leader. At the beginning of his career, he was an ally to Sulla. Pompey participated in the fight to suppress Spartacus’s revolt. Also, he was in command of Roman troops in the war against Mithridates VI, which ended with the victory of the Romans. In 48 BC, his troops were defeated by Caesar under Pharsalus (Fessalia).
