This lesson explores using the coordinate plane to solve word problems. Students begin the lesson by finding the area of a triangle drawn on a coordinate grid. Then they compare the perimeters and then the areas of rectangles on a coordinate grid. Students then draw a line graph to show the distance, rate, and time relationship of a hiking trip, both uphill and downhill.
