At the end of this activity, students should be able to define carbohydrates, monosaccharides, disaccharides and polysaccharides and give examples of carbohydrates representing these classes, describe the occurrence and functions of the most important carbohydrates, describe the characteristic properties of monosaccharides, disaccharides, storage polysaccharides and structural polysaccharide and explain the reactions of hydrolysis and condensation of carbohydrates and their importance.
