At the end of this activity, students should be able to recognize the ecosystem as an organized and functional unit, recognize the multiplicity of interactions that constitute an ecosystem, understand why ecosystems need to be self-maintaining and understand why it is necessary to preserve entire ecosystems in order to maintain the balance of nature.
