At the end of this activity, students should be able to give a general description of dûblock elements, relate the properties of transition metals to their electron configurations, indicate whether a certain transition metal atom or ion is paramagnetic or not, discuss general periodic trends in the dûblock and explain the reactivity of transition metals in terms of standard reduction potentials.
