At the end of this activity, students should be able to describe the stability of a complex in terms of formation constant, explain the reaction of aqua ions with ammonia and describe the structure of the resulting ammine complexes, describe metal complexes of chloride ions, explain why the complexes with multidentate ligands (chelating agents) are usually more stable than those with unidentate ligands and explain why the formation of complex ions affects the solubility of ionic compounds.
