At the end of this activity, students should be able to define the four quantum numbers, describe the structure of energy levels in a manyûelectron atom, define s, p and d orbitals, and describe their shapes, describe the rules for assigning electrons to subshells, deduce the electron configuration of an atom from its atomic number and describe the position of the element in the periodic table based on its electron configuration.
