At the end of this activity, students should be able to define acids and bases in terms of the Lewis theory, describe the formation of aqua ions in water solution, explain the acidity (hydrolysis) reaction of hexaaquaûmetal ions, define the products of the reactions of metal aqua ions with alkalis, ammonia and carbonates, explain the term amphoteric hydroxides and use the reactions of aqua complexes for the identification of metal ions.
