At the end of this activity, students should be able to define the carbonyl group, an aldehyde and a ketone and name examples of carbonyl compounds, explain the effect of the presence of a carbonyl group on the physical properties of aldehydes and ketones, design reactions for obtaining simple aldehydes and ketones and describe the occurrence of aldehydes and ketones in nature and give examples of the applications of them.
