The grand St. Lawrence Hall is built on the ruins of a burned-out farmers' market and council meetings are held in the first City Hall built immediately to the south on the shores of Lake Ontario. When council outgrows the building it becomes the St. Lawrence Market and still retains the original Council Chamber.
