For a teen, deciding to become sexually active IS a big deal. It IS a life-changing decision. That's why it's so important to have open and honest discussions with your partner about sex, before you become sexually active. This program is designed to make students aware of the physical and emotional health risks of having sexual relations. The ongoing message in this program is; before you make the decision to have sex you MUST have a conversation about sexually transmitted diseases with your partner, and even more important, get tested. For many people, talking about STDs may be uncomfortable and embarrassing. This program models several appropriate ways of talking about it. The most effective way to prevent pregnancy and STDs is choosing not to have sex. No other way is guaranteed. This program discusses the importance of using a condom to be protected from sexually transmitted diseases and an unplanned pregnancy. Video modeling scenes demonstrate how to begin a discussion about condoms and provide teens with the language they need to feel confident talking about this important issue. Viewers will learn how to over-come a partner's objections with clear and firm answers. Through various, true-to-life scenarios students will come to learn appropriate and inappropriate times to discuss STDs and contraceptives. The program emphasizes that parents may be the best resource for a teen before they decide to become sexually active. How do you begin the conversation?
