The Civil Rights Movement worked to end discrimination in public places, housing, and employment. Though leaders, like Martin Luther King Jr., called for non-violent protests, many were met with violence. The efforts led to President Lyndon B. Johnson signing the Civil Rights Acts of 1964 and 1968.
