In August 2010, a cargo ship carrying 492 Tamil refugees was intercepted off the coast of British Columbia. For years Tamils have been trying to escape the horrors of war back home in Sri Lanka, but the treacherous ocean trip to Canada wasn't the hard part: trying to become Canadian has proved as difficult as the road to get here. The Agenda in the Summer welcomes Sharon Bala, who was inspired by this story and made it the basis of her first novel, "The Boat People."
